Press release: Perrec Petry

Bahamas in Vienna
From 3 to 21 March 2010, a small Bahamian island will appear inside the Haus des Meeres, Austria’s biggest aquarium.
For the first time drift art made by Perrec Petry will captivate Vienna.
The exhibition is barrier-free and the admission included in a valid ticket for the Haus des Meeres.
Perrec Petry, an artist who is well-established in the Caribbean, wants to open his art to people with special needs.
We will be offering guided tours for blind and handicapped by appointment. Blind persons have the opportunity to touch the sculptures and talk to the artist.

Perrec Petry
"The sea gave birth to man and most of the creatures of the land. Now that our civilization is stressing the planet with it's needs, perhaps its time to remember our origins and remember to cherish, protect and honor the oceans, seas and wetlands of our planet before we do irreparable damage. We must learn to live in a balance and harmony with nature, before it's too late." (©Perrec Petry, 2009)

Perrec Petry is living and working on the idyllic car-free island of Elbow Cay on the edge of the Bahamian archipelago. The natural surroundings shape his art.
Sailing to work everyday, he observes the sea creatures – dolphins, whales, sharks and other animals are his inspiration.
For 30 years he has been using driftwood for his sculptures, with the idea of transforming wood which has been given up by Nature into a form of art.
This is his way to remind us to honour nature.
